When you work you want to feel safe and protected. This is the reason why now there is this cross-disciplinary area, occupational health and safety, that aims to foster a safe work environment. The goal is to protect not only the worker but as a secondary effect it protects also the employers, customers, suppliers, co-workers, nearby communities, family members, and other members of the public who are related by the workplace environment.

The occupational health and safety area could have interactions with:

• occupational (or industrial) hygiene,
• health physics.
• safety engineering,
• occupational medicine
• chemistry,
• public health,

This is not a new area of interest because since 1950 the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) shared a common definition of occupational health: "Occupational health should aim at: the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations; the prevention amongst workers of departures from health caused by their working conditions; the protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting from factors adverse to health; the placing and maintenance of the worker in an occupational environment adapted to his physiological and psychological capabilities; and, to summarize, the adaptation of work to man and of each man to his job".

There are plenty of attractions and things to see in Amsterdam. Miles and miles of canals, hundreds of picturesque streets, quaint buildings (about 7,000) to visit in the heart of the city, about 40 museums, important diamond processing centres, workshops, etc. The list is long and we just have to start the tour. Don't we? Below I will list the attractions and places that have impressed me more in Amsterdam (I recommend you visit them if you go to Amsterdam for at least one week).

First of all, I suggest you visit the Rijksmuseum, the largest Dutch museum. This museum displays masterpieces by Vermeer, Hals, Steen, Rembrandt, including the famous "Night Watch". Another very important museum in Amsterdam is the Van Gogh Museum in the Museumplein area. Within this museum are housed hundreds and hundreds of works of the great Dutch painter, father of Expressionism. Not only paintings but also drawings, prints, documents, letters, everything that has been able to expose the artist since 1973. Another interesting museum to visit in Amsterdam is the NEMO building designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano to house the Centre for Science in Amsterdam. This place is much more than a museum. Since the '90s this beauty of architecture has not stopped creating the most advanced art. Not to be missed is also the home of Anne Frank, called Anne Frank Huis, which is located in the district of Westermarkt. Who has not read the famous memoir of the young Anne Frank? Everyone should go through the evidence left at the memorial museum (which is a typical Amsterdam canal house, with steep staircases) where three Jewish families lived silently for more than 2 years during the Second World War.
