Small guide about maternity clothes

I still remember when my wife and I were expecting for our first baby. It was an exciting and confusing period at the same time because many were the new things that we had to face. Preparing your house and yourself for your first baby may be stressing but it is anyway emotional and stimulating because you have to study several matters to feel ready to be parent.
One of the most stressing factors was my wife's choice for her maternity clothes.
Initially, my wife thought that it should have been impossible to find something to wear that did not make her look like a whale.

We decided then to make some searches on Internet and we found that it is possible expecting a baby and having a nice look. The market offers now a huge range of maternity clothes, there is only the embarrassment of choosing.
My first advice is that you take your measures correctly, especially in relation to your chest and along your hips. These two measures are the most used by the producers of maternity clothes. If you are uncertain about your clothes' size, I suggest that you take the larger one. Remember, pregnant women tend to become larger and not thinner approaching the childbirth. This means that choosing large maternity clothes will let you use your clothes longer. If you choose maternity clothes that suit you perfectly at the moment of the purchase, you would run the risk that you will use it just few weeks.

In this particular situation of your life, I think that larger is better, especially in midsummer, and cheaper because your maternity clothes will have a longer life. Length is very important at the same time. I recommend that you measure accurately the length of the clothes you intend to buy, so that you will be sure of your correct size while purchasing. In addition, bear in mind that your shoes as well may become tight. This is due to the blood circulation that changes when you expect a baby and I suggest that you buy comfortable shoes to use during your pregnancy. It will certainly give you relief and it will help you to feel more natural.

There are different ways manufacturers use to produce adjustable waist maternity clothes, such as elastic or zips. Most used is the stretch fabric that is very easy to use and comfortable at the same time. Very often, the stretch fabric is used in combination with elastic fabric, to let your maternity clothes adapt as much as possible to your changing measures. This feature would be very helpful to use your clothes also after you have had your baby because you could wear your clothes even while getting thinner.

If you are (or will be) a breast feeder these times may get longer. Breast feeders usually take more time to return to their usual sizes. What is very important is that you choose bras that make you feel comfortable. To do that, you must choose a proper size maternity bra because your size will increase, and not necessarily just one size up. Therefore, I suggest that you buy a couple of bras per size, bearing in mind that you will need two daytime bras and a night time bra. This would avoid that you must wash your bras everyday. Two are the main types of feeding bras, drop cup and zip. The choice between the two types is absolutely related to your personal predilection. If you are uncertain, ask advice to a breast-feeder. Friendly and, above all, experienced advices are always the better advices.

At this point, few tips about the minimum required wardrobe. I think that a minimum wardrobe should be composed of two jeans (that may be replaced by shorts in midsummer), two casual pants, at least ten shirts or blouses rather than T-shirts or tops, a couple of skirts at least, three or four day gowns.
My last advice is to consider also your working environment, and make sure about your company dress code. Some companies expect that you keep dressing up even if pregnant; some others are more relaxed about. This would be very helpful to purchase the right maternity clothes that will suit you while working as well.
