Office Furniture: styles and suggestions
Basic or hi-tech? Severe or coloured? The market area of the office furniture is getting increasingly widespread. The office is actually the environment where you spend most of your time. However, anyone who has ever worked in an office knows perfectly that not all the office furniture is comfortable. Being a very tall man, I am experienced about small desks and short chairs that make your working day very hard. Just like me, many people spend the working day in uncomfortable environments. Some lucky people everyday seat behind a beautiful computer desk in a very comfortable armchair, in a bright and spacious room with carpets. Some others, who are less lucky, would spend their working day in an open space office together with fifty other people in a continuous idle chatter, which would go deep into your brain at the end of the day.
I strongly believe that better office furniture produces a better work. The market offers now a vast range of office furniture that can satisfy everybody's requirements about desks, chairs rather than accessories or styles. Classic or modern styles, monochrome or polychrome, there is indeed only the embarrassment of choosing. Furthermore, office furniture must provide practicality.
Think about your ergonomic chair. It is comfortable in relation to the correct posing of your shoulders and your back. The position of your computer must be compliant to national healthy service indications. Did you know that the computer screen must be perpendicular to your eyes? This is helpful to avoid that your look and your neck as well are not fixed in a position for a long time. On the other hand, it is true that not always you can improve the quality of your working environment.
There is no question that your desk is one of the most important office furniture items. It is therefore necessary that it must be functional to your work. The desk usually gives hospitality to a computer, one or more telephones and sometimes a printer as well. However, there are situations where the desk is simple and it is located in an open space. The desk's width is what I consider vital. I need to have space enough for everything, so that I would be able to put on my desk my keyboard, my telephone, the documents I daily review, my notepad, my pen with my pencils and all other accessories I may need and be able to move anyway.
In my opinion, the L shaped desk is still the best solution to write e-mails, have as telephone call and review documents to be printed as much easily as possible. The L shaped desk matches very well with all modern furniture styles, which are actually the most common styles.
L Shaped Desks
If you prefer a classic style for your office furniture, I suggest that you create an IT corner, where you can place your computer and the components on a single working plan, in order to have more space in your room. A classic style means indeed dark colours, which have the effect of reducing optically the sizes of your room. Light colours, such as modern office furniture styles provide now, are suggested for small spaces, in combination with metal bookcases and white or transparent panels and brackets.
Office Chairs
You spend most of your working day's time sitting, even four or five consecutive hours. Your chair is therefore nearly the most important office furniture item. It must be comfortable and, if possible, ergonomic and adjustable. This will help you to have a correct position in relation to your screen and your desk, avoiding all those articulations pains that are well known in office environments.
Once again, I recommend that you choose chairs colours in combination with the style of your office, just like the accessories that should follow the style of the environment.
Many are the accessories that help your daily work, such as bookcases and archives, desk lamps and drawer filing cabinets. Desk kits are very useful as well to store your stationery.
In conclusion, my last advice regards office lamps.
Artificial lamps are commonly used in offices, especially in midwinter. As a result, your eyes become tired and burning. A correct and functional office lamp must have a solid base and provide a flexible arm, to let you adjust the head of the lamp to your requirements. In addition, the light of the lamp must not go direct to your computer screen but it should come from above the top of the screen down, to avoid any reflection on your screen and to provide light to all your workspace.
