Nintendo Wii - Wii Fit: train yourself with fun!
Nintendo Wii, or simply Wii, is a new concept of home videogame console produced by Nintendo that follows the Nintendo Game Cube. It was launched at the end of 2006 and it has represented a revolutionary step forward in the world of home recreation. It is the seventh version of the Nintendo console and it is actually the most sold console all around the world because makes home videogames easier than ever. Nintendo Wii has innovated home gaming while making it very easy to use, so that now parents may play together with their kids. They have finally the possibility of sharing the same event. What is astonishing is that Nintendo Wii does not make you play a game; it makes you feel as you were in the game, as a real main character of the action. This changes the perspective of the game, which is no more a part of your entertainment because it is you to be a part of the game. Wiimote (abbreviation of Wii and Remote) is the main feature that differentiates Wii from its competitors. Wiimote, which looks very similar to your TV remote control, is an ergonomic wireless controller that allows you to see the movements you make on the monitor in your room.
In few words, through its interactivity, you can use it as a pointing system on your
TV display and you can use your usual motions while being at the centre of the game displayed on your TV. To do that you must handle your Nunchuk that is the tool through which you physically play the movements of the game. There is no more need to push buttons to swing your tennis racket; you are really swinging the racket. The Nunchuk must be previously connected to the Wiimote and, once the connection is made, you are ready to play.
At the end of 2007, Nintendo launched Wii Fit that is an exercise video game, which is composed by different activities. These actions are both fun and fitness, to let you have the chance to have amusement and physical training at your home. The Wii Fit has been designed to be used by each member of your family and it works together with the Balance Board. The Balance Board is a board placed on the floor that is able to feel the pressure made on it. The device is able to read your actions and bring them into the screen, same way as Wii Remote does. As the Balance Board follows realistically your actions you will have full control on your on-screen movements. You only have to try go skiing down a mountain and you will discover a new way to be into the game.
Wii Fit provides four training modes: Yoga, Balance Games, Strength Training and Aerobics. These four training modes have been studied to support you to improve the control and the balance of your body as well as fat reduction rather than shaping or strengthening your muscles. The opportunity of having a private gym at your home is one of the reasons that have made Wii Fit so popular in the world, actually is third best-selling game in the Wii’s range.
- The Yoga mode provides the following exercises: tree pose, warrior, half moon and deep breathing, to condition your muscles and improve your posture.
- The Balance Games mode provides the following exercises: soccer heading, ski slalom, ski jump and table tilt, to increase your sense of equilibrium.
- The Strength Training mode provides the following exercises: single leg extension, torso twists, push-up and side plank, jack-knife and lunge, to develop and tone your muscles.
The Aerobics mode provides the following exercises: hula-hoop, basic step, basic
run and 2 people run, to tone your body. Another Wii Fit’s feature that I sincerely find very interesting is the capacity of recording your performances, allowing you to have a constant over time control on your progress, by means of simple graphs and charts. In conclusion, if you do not like to attend to a gym or if you prefer to exercise you body at home Nintendo Wii Fit may be a solution to take in consideration.
