Children furniture, suggestions to spare space
As my children grow up very rapidly, I recently realized that the time to change children furniture was come. Doing an online research, I discovered many useful information if you are going to do the same.
First, you must consider very carefully the spaces and the measures of the room, in the light of the fact that your children would keep on growing. The new furniture therefore must be designed to be adapted to your children's changing requirements.
Furthermore, the furniture would go with the growth of your children. They have to be flexible to allow your children to play and to study whether if they are 3 years old or 10. The children furniture must provide a new space to your children's imagination and creativity. Therefore, first step, when choosing a new children furniture, is to take carefully the measurements of the room length, width and height, paying a very close attention to the positions of the windows and door(s).
A little suggestion: remember to measure also the access through the room, to be sure that the furniture could be delivered properly. Then, you need to calculate how much storage your children really need, to be able to choose the right wardrobe to be placed in a space that must also allow putting a TV or a computer as well as the bed.
If you need a single bed, you have the option to choose between a small starter bed instead of a larger bed. The benefit of a small bed is that leaves a larger space available in the room while a larger bed will be used longer. You can save some space purchasing a bunk bed.
Another option is a pull-out bed that is stored below the main bed.
What you have to assess is the solidity of the bed because it will be used by your children without mercy, as a place where playing with friends, where jumping and where sleeping as well.
A very funny piece of children furniture is a theme bed, such as car-beds or train beds. I suggest to check carefully the quality because you could find that, in spite of the aspect that intrigues children, the manufacturing quality may be very low. Another key factor in your choice will be the materials of the children furniture. Solid wood furniture seem to be the natural first choice for quality furniture, however it may not be the most pragmatic. The reason is that solid wood moves; it widens when it is at the presence of moisture and may shrink when dried.
Laminates and Wood-Based Panels are the centre of your furniture and decide the stability and the duration of your furniture.
You can choose between the following basic types:
- plywood, which is a very good material, more lasting and rigid than wood-fibre materials
- block-board, based upon cheap timber boards linked into a panel and treated with a veneer, very stable and better than wood-fibre materials
- chipboard, which is a board made of wood-chips, very common and cheap
Buying you furniture online is very easy at the present but I suggest, before purchasing your new furniture, to go to a furniture shop and check personally the quality of the furniture you intend to buy online. Once done that, be sure that the retailer offers you the option of the refund for any reason, including the option of the free home pick up.
