Fax machines
Fax machines are able to sent documents over a telephone line. These machines have existed since the 19th century but only in 1970s became feasible due to the increasing sophistication of technology and the first digital fax machines appeared in Japan and they showed the clear advantage over competing technologies. Over the time fax machines became very popular around the world because they became gradually affordable by the mid-1980s.
Technology is moving forward every day and fax machines have faced increasing competition from internet but still fax machines retain some advantages, for example with fax machines you can send over also sensitive material that transmitted with internet could be vulnerable to interception. Moreover, on contracts, electronic signatures are not recognized by law while signatures on faxed contracts are accepted.
Nowadays many companies have replaced fax machines with fax servers that are computerized systems able to receive and store incoming faxes electronically reducing costs by eliminating unnecessary printouts because these servers are able to rout the document to users on paper or via email.
So we can say that everybody need a fax machine! The good news is that buying a fax machine us as simple as sending a fax itself!
You should do yourself just some questions:
- How often will you use your fax machine? If you will not use it often you can choose a lower-end models, cheaper but slower.
- What kind of documents will you need to send? Do you need a high or low resolution? Will you have to sent long or short documents? Should they be secured?
- You will need to sent you documents on local or long distance? If you have to sent them on long distance you will have to choose a fax machine with a fast transmission speed.
- How much do you want to spend? Fax machines are available from 100£ but prices can go up to 1000£ depends on the different features they have.
So answer all the question before going to buy your new fax machine... these answers will give you a clear idea of what you need to look for.
