Why should you prefer a heating floor?

Imagine a cold morning,  outside is snowing and you have to wake up! It is hard to peel yourself from the warm of your bed, but you slip out of your bed and you put your feet on a warm floor... wouldn't be great?

The floor heating is not a new invention, it has been used for 2 thousand years: the first to use it were the Romans and since the 1970s it is the preferred heating system in Europe. It is also recommended for people with allergies because this kind of heating can eliminate the blown air  reducing dust mites by up to 80%!

This floor heating system is called RADIANT FLOOR HEATING (RFH) and there is the possibility to install the electric heating coils or the water heated tubing under your home's floor.

There is more than one way to install your heat floor system:

  • Dry installation: in this installation the heating elements are between a permanent sub floor and a finished layer above.
  • Wet installation: here the heating elements are set directly into the concrete.

The best floor surface  for a floor heat system is the ceramic tile thanks to its heat conducting qualities! Wood floor and thick carpeting are not very suitable because they tend as isolators and they can reduce the efficiency of the floor heating system moreover the heat can crack or damage the wood flooring. Unlike the baseboard heaters, floor heaters are more efficient because they don't lose some heat as they operate.

How does it work?

The heat form the floor is able to warm everything it touches. It works like the sun:  if you step into the sun you will feel warmer compared to the shadow although the air temperature is the same!
You should also think about saving money thanks to the floor heating system: you will be able to slash heating costs  by 25 to 50%... and you should also think about the long term cost benefits . For example water based heat system require little electricity to operate, moreover this system can also operate from solar power, natural gas.
