Retiling your bathroom?
I have just finished retiling by bathrooms I have 4 of them at home... can you imagine what an arduous undertaking ! ) Are you thinking about retiling your bathroom as well? Let me immediately tell you that it’s not as simple task !
Like for everything, today there is an overwhelming amount of options to choose from and it can get pretty confusing, especially if you don't have clear idea yet ! You will have to decide between bathroom tile sizes, bathroom tile texture and the different bathroom tile materials (which is much more difficult than you would think) .
Because it happened to me, let me tell you that the most common mistake one could make in choosing a smooth bathroom tile. Smooth bathroom tile could put your family at a high risk (especially kids or old persons who could easily slip on it). I think that's barefooted leg’s grip is much safer and far more stable than smooth bathroom tiles.
Bathroom tile size, the next priority . The most popular size is 12'' x 12'' , but a good alternative could be the 8 x 8" bathroom tiles. Personally I wouldn't dislike the 4'' x 4" size. Is far more uncommon and could look great on a modern type of bathroom ( excepct that you may rick to bump into these small tiles and could hurt your bare foot) . For sure, it would be a good idea to match your bathroom tile with the wall tiles .
Last but not least, is the bathroom tile material and it's all up to your personal preference. I suggest , as
I said before, to try to match your bathroom furniture.
Here the most popular bathroom tile materials :
- Porcelain (very delicate , not advisable in case you have children at home)
- Ceramic Tile: a very popular choice ( cheap and easy to manage together with the fact that it can look very stylish if combined with the right pattern)
- Limestone : it’s got a very rocky earthlike feel to it ( my favorite)
- Marble (looks absolutely gorgeous!): but is extremely slick and smooth and ... expensive !
- Granite: is very similar to marble but is much cheaper ( good average choice) .
- Brick Pavers: used almost exclusively for outdoors patios but I would be adventurous and would put it inside my bathroom making it look very natural and easy.
- Slate: great choice if you are looking for a rusty look .
- Mexican Saltillo: definitely an acquired taste! You either adore it or you absolutely hate it. They are litterally hand made and tend to curve a little .
- Stone/Glass mosaic : definitely artistic!
- Glass mosaic: it comes into several perl colors. I love the peach color ones. And... it's absolutely one of the cheapest bathroom tiles ( £ 6 per sq. ft)
Price wise, it all depends on where you purchase you bathroom tile. Of course Marble and Porcelain are the most expensive once ... but you could find cheaper deals on amazon !
