What do I need to go diving?
If you like diving but you are not an expert maybe these advices will help you in choosing the perfect diving equipment.
An old diving instructor told his students to have in his logbook nearly eight thousand dives without any accidents. Students asked him how it was possible and he replied that he went underwater always in optimal conditions. “Every time I do a dive- he said - I am always sure to have done the most to go up again safely”. The tricks to get this security are known to everyone: you should not dive if you are not one hundred percent of your physical form because a small effect can become a horrible adventure and the equipment must be impeccable and you have to check it before every dive!
There are different types of immersion:
- sport diving, practiced for pleasure as hobby;
- immersion technique, which goes beyond the scope of the normal sport diving;
- dive professional practiced for work;
Depending on the type of equipment used we can also distinguish different types of diving: free diving, scuba or technical.
But let's speak about the equipment you need:
- diving mask that protects the eyes and allows you to see clearly underwater
- fins for an efficient propulsion
- snorkel that will allow you to breath at the surface with the face submerged.
- diving suit, diving gloves and diving boots (normally made of neoprene for thermal insulation)
- a torch is essential for safety in low visibility
- a knife is important if you need to cut nets or to dig or pry.
- Surface buoy that will mark the diver's position
- Dry box that will hold objects that you need to keep dry

For scuba diving you will also need:
- cylinder
- diving regulator
- depth gauge
- watch or dive computer
- decompression tables
- lifting bag that will help you, just adding air, to lift heavy objects underwater
and don't forget your camera for underwater photography!!
