Benefits of Cat Insurance
I have a cat, his name is Maya and I have chosen to take out an insurance for him. Why? Very easy to explain.
There are at least two good reasons to take out an insurance for your cat: first it will cover veterinary expenses and second it will limit your financial responsibility for any damage caused to third parties. Now pets are considered family members and we want to provide them the sophisticated, but expensive, treatment that veterinary medicine can offer. Surgery, accident and other medical expenses are cover from the insurance that usually provides for the reimbursement of expenses incurred for unexpected emergencies. The insurance does not normally cover the costs for periodic or optional inspections.
Regarding the financial responsibility for any damage caused to third parties, we must remember that the law considers the owner responsible for the damage caused by the pet. Even if you are very careful and scrupulous it can always happen that our animal can cause serious and very expensive damage. For example a cat can cross the road and can knock over a cyclist or can rip expensive brand clothes at a friend who visits us.
When you are going to stipulate your cat insurance please be advise that it should offer you:
- 24 hours Veterinary Emergency advice
- information on veterinary medical centers, special shops, breeding etc..
- a list of hotels and camps that provide free access to cats
- practical guidance to travel with your cat and the reporting of any endemic diseases present in specific locations;
- the details on the legislation on compulsory and necessary vaccinations for foreign countries.
There are different insurance packages that can satisfy all the personal needs. Each policy, or rather every insurance company, applies its own policy conditions, but some are quite common, such as:
- insurance is personal for each cat which will be identified with medical record data (name, date of birth, race, sex, tattoo number or microchip);
- the age of the cat should be between a minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 10 years
- the duration of the insurance contract is one year
- insurance imposes limits on reimbursement
