Greece: a laid-back place
Last year I was in Greece for my summer holidays... and you know what, I will go there also this year!! In Greece I found a huge selection of beautiful destinations, an incredible history,a mixture of fascinating heritage and modern resorts! I choose Greece to explore the amazing ruins but also to enjoy the wonderful sunshine and the beautiful beaches.
Greece is not only a country with a hallowed past but also a country who offers a myriad of experiences and activities! Many myths of gods and giants originated in this landscape. We can say that Greece has something for everyone! Greece is also the birthplace of drama and democracy and of western science and medicine. Greeks know how to enjoy life and the citizens are knew as some of the most hospitable people on the globe. Athens was, during the fifth century BC, the cultural capital of Mediterranean, with fine example of architecture, philosophy and literature.
During the winter many tourist infrastructure goes into hibernation so it is preferable to visit Greece during spring and autumn. From June to the end of August is high season: beaches are crowded, it's very hot, and many ancient sites are swarming with tour groups so...personally I think that the best times to visit Greece are the months of May, June, September and October.
If you go to Greece, after visiting the capital Athens, there are so many island where you can relax:
- Zante, Rodhes and Mikonos, offer a vibrant nightlife
- Lesbos is a relaxing place and also popular for the gay community
- Corfu, Crete, Kefalonia, Skiathos and Kos are perfect for family holiday
- Santorini with the most amazing sunset in the world is wonderfully romantic
I will also suggest, before going to Greece, to watch some film shot there like:
- Mediterraneo, an Italian film about Italian soldiers stranded on tiny Kastellorizo during the II World War
- For Your Eyes Only, a secret-agent travels around Greece
- Mamma Mia, musical filmed on Skopelos
- Never on a Sunday, the actress Mercouri received an Oscar nomination for her role as a prostitute in Piraeus
I hope you will enjoy Greece as I did and will do again!!!!!
