Motorcycle insurance

If you have finally purchased the motorbike of your dreams you cannot  even think to start ride it and plan your trips if you have not bought a valid insurance yet! I can remember the face of my friend Mark when he first realized that... he spent full days on motorcycling magazines reading about the power of the engine, the lines of his bike's body, the speed he may have reached while riding across streets and landscapes, dealing about the price of his bike without even thinking to the additional amount of an insurance!

I know that none of us likes to interrupt dreams to think about paper stuff, but unfortunately real life is not only made of dreams and also we have to take care of our health and safe! Moreover we also have to pay attention to penalties we may get by driving without an insurance.  So guys I am sorry now it's time to dedicate to your insurance choice.
Choosing  is not simple as there are millions insurance companies to ask about,  but some tips may help you to speed up your insurance search:

  1. If you already got a car you may ask to your car insurance company to provide you with a quotation
  2. Do your friends own a motorcycle? Well, ask them which company do
  3. they refer to for their motorcycle insurance
  4. 3. Do not forget Internet resources and check the opinions of other
  5. riders in dedicated forums

What about prices?

You can easily get a quotation from the main insurance companies on the web and then compare and find out which one may offer a cheaper rate to you, in consideration of your budget and your  profile.
In the calculation of the insurance amount the same cars insurance rules apply, so your age will be  calculated  together with your experience, the city you live in and the number of  car accidents you may have caused.

Here follows a list of the main factors that insurance companies use to calculate your monthly rate:

  1. Your age
  2. Total number of years you have been licensed
  3. Number of accidents caused
  4. Size of the engine expressed  in CCs
  5. Cash value of your motorcycle (to determine the cash value you can easily have a look at selling ads  on the web on ebay for example)
  6. City where you live
  7. Type of coverage

About this last point you usually have two main insurance plans: third party liability which covers damages that may be caused to other people by your fault. In this case your insurance will pay for people or things involved but not for damages caused to you or to your property.

Comprehensive insurance, instead, provides full coverage for each damage caused both to  you and third parties in case of accident. Smart suggestion: if you do not have a garage you should plan to rent one because the less your motorcycle will be exposed to theft risk the less amount you will pay for insurance coverage.
Well I think you have now been briefed enough, so turn on your engine and go to get your insurance!
