Choose the right plumber
Did you know that the word plumber dates from the Roman Empire?
In Roman times, some roofs were made of lead, or plumbum in Latin (symbol 'Pb' for lead). The workers on such roofs were what are now called "plumbers". Thus, a person with expertise in working with lead was known as a Plumbarius, then shortened to “plumber”.
Plumbers install and repair all plumbing equipment used for water distribution, waste water disposal, and venting in residential, commercial, institutional, and industrial buildings. Plumbing codes are strict and need for quality plumbing work is high because of the health and safety problems related to poor water supply and sewage removal. If you want to become a skilled plumber, you need years of training and experience. Some jurisdictions also require that plumbers be licensed. A Master Plumber has demonstrated mastery of the trade of plumbing. He may have worked in a single area of the trade or may have experience in multiple areas of the plumbing trade.
If you are looking for a plumber, bear in mind that it is not always easy to find the right
one. Getting it wrong could land you in hot water! However, there are things you can do to ensure you don’t make mistakes. Asking friends or family is always a useful starting point. They can recommend a local tradesman. Otherwise you can have a look on the net. Some websites can provide you with a full list of plumbers operating in your area. A simple search will give you a rundown of local firms, and provide a huge amount of detail on each. This can include what areas of plumbing a firm specialises in, contact information, whether the firm is Gas Safe registered, and details of guarantees. A search can also provide links to a company’s website, where you can find out even more about the services provided.
It is important then to be clear about the job you want doing. Make it clear whether you are getting an estimate or a quote. Therefore, ask about the level of call-out charges, what the hourly rate is and be clear what the cost for parts and equipment will be. Thus you won’t be disappointed or end up paying more than you should.
I hope my info was useful to many of you. Pay attention to all details you find on the net and be able to make the right choice!
