Someone may think that trainers are only related to sport. I was one of them who thought it, but I had to change my mind when I visited some shops downtown, so I decided to get more information about this popular article and its development over the years.
 
Trainers are called in several ways: "trainers" in Britain, "sandshoes", "gym boots" or "joggers" in Australia, "running shoes", "runners" or "gutties" in Canada, "sneakers", "tennis shoes" in North America. They are made of flexible compounds, typically featuring a sole made of dense rubber.

Trainers sales in the US soared to 600 million pairs around the 1950s, when they became part of young people's dress codes and when jogging quickly became popular. By the 1980s, everyone wore a pair of sneakers: Woody Allen, Led Zeppelin, Dustin Hoffman, Nike and Reebok were among the market leaders. Michael Jordan signed a contract with Nike to make his own signature line of shoes and apparel.

During the 1990s, shoe companies perfected their fashion and marketing skills and trainers became a fashion statement and definition of identity and personality rather than mere athletic aids. Today's designs include sandals, mary jane and even elevated styles suitable for running, dancing and jumping.

While the original design was basic, manufacturers have tailored athletic shoes for different purposes and needs: high-tops, which cover the ankle; low-tops, which don't cover it; mid-cut, which are in-between; sneaker boots, which extend to the calf.

I found many kinds of trainers, dealing with running, aerobics, step, football and other many kinds to be worn with jeans and t-shirt or even with elegant clothing, making you trendy and fashionable!

Trainers were actually designed for sporting or physical activities in origin, but they have become a fashion clothing detail over the years. Large brands include Adidas, ASICS, Converse, Fila, Gola, Nike, Lacoste, Mizuno, New Balance, Puma, Reebok.
