Vitamin & Supplements for your health and wellness

It is unquestionably true that our body needs vitamins. Vitamins are chemical substances that our body absolutely requires in small quantities for a correct growth and development. Most part is produced by our body itself, which means that our diet must include the necessary nourishments.
Every diet should provide daily the necessary quantity of vitamins and minerals but it is not unusual that the lives we live, too much often stressing and rushing, make very difficult to have a well-balanced diet. This is the reason why vitamins and supplements are getting increasingly widespread, as the sales data clearly show.

In United Kingdom, more than £ 200 million are actually spent for vitamin and mineral supplements. More than 40 per cent of the United Kingdom's adult population usually take vitamins or mineral supplements, as reported by the Food Standards Agency. Cod liver oil and multivitamins were the most common supplements so far but the sales of mega-dose vitamin and mineral products are growing very rapidly.
Remember that that it is possible to damage the body by overdosing, just the same as any other pharmaceutical product. I can understand that the idea of maintaining your fitness only by taking pillows may be appealing but I recommend that you take vitamins and supplements following the right dosage.

In addition, bear in mind that some scientific studies have reported that vitamins obtained from supplements do not work exactly as the vitamins you can obtain from foods. We all know that our fitness and our health are strictly connected to a good diet, where vitamins and minerals are balanced with the other nourishments that our body needs. It is anyway important that essential nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, must be taken in the right quantity. Vitamins have an effect on several vital functions and parts of our body, such as hair, eyes, heart, nails muscles, nervous system and so on. Here is why it is so important that we have a good and complete diet that will provide us all needed nourishments. If you do that, you certainly do not need any supplement or vitamin.

If not, you may take in consideration to take vitamins and supplements to integrate your diet. My suggestion is to try anyway to have a balanced diet, if possible. Vitamins and supplements do not replace a natural and balanced food habits indeed, as all nutritional experts agree. Only people in particular medical situations or following specific diet do really need to take vitamins or food supplements.
My advice is that you can easily increase the consumption of vegetables and fruit. These foods are very vitamins and minerals rich, more than we can imagine.

The groups of people who may need to take vitamin and supplements are:

  • pregnant women (or planning to get pregnant) should take daily 400mcg folic acid as supplement to prevent spina bifida.
  • people usually wearing dark robes and having very limited exposure to sunlight may have a lack of vitamin D.
  • vegans who never eat animal products may have a lack of vitamin B12.
  • people who have difficulty eating and are malnourished
  • people who usually do very intense practice for sport.

If you need to take vitamins or supplements, I suggest that you take in consideration some basic rules before starting taking any pillow. First, you must know the quantity of vitamins and supplements you can take. This quantity is also called "recommended daily allowance" (RDA), and it is important to avoid overdosing.
The recommended daily allowance depends on different factors, such as your age, your health conditions and your life habits as well. Just to give you an example, a child needs a smaller quantity than an adult person does. At the same time, a vegetarian who excludes animal foods from his diet will have benefits from taking supplements that will be different from the supplements that a person who usually eats meat takes. Vitamins and supplements must be taken in the proper way because otherwise you run the risk that your body would not absorb them. For example, you have to take vitamins drinking a glass of water, which it must not be cold as cold drinks can harm supplements substances.

Another advice is that you read instructions before taking supplements, to be sure that the pillows must be taken before or after food. Furthermore, avoid drinking coffee or tea 15 minutes before and after taking supplements. If you take more than one supplement together, make sure that there is not the risk of unwanted interferences between the different supplements. Last suggestion, always remember to keep your vitamins and supplements out of your children's hands now.
