Broadband internet connection

As many often say, Internet can be definitely considered the most important technological innovation of the last century. I cannot imagine my actual life without an Internet connection. The web is absolutely my first source of any information I might need. It is also the means I everyday use to stay in touch with all my friends living all around the world. In addition, Internet allows me to be a member of several forums, mainly motorbike's forums.
In few words, I actually could not live without a broadband Internet connection.
If you think about ten years ago, you will recall that Internet was not a primary need. Moreover, the Internet connections were very slow and narrow at the time (commonly a 56 k connection).

The development of the technology and research has made possible that we actually have very fast and broad connections available also for domestic use. The market offers now a very large number of broadband options and it can be hard to choose between so many alternatives. Before choosing mine, I have made several searches on Internet, looking at the recommendations and the advice based upon the experiences of other users offered by the forums dedicated to this matter.
But, firstly, what exactly is a broadband?

A broadband is a high-speed connection that offers the capacity to enter into Internet by means of a common telephone line. A broadband connection may work through ADSL rather than a cable connection. The difference is meaningful because it has an effect on the type of the setting of your broadband connection; once done that you would not find distinctions among the two. By comparison with the old dialup telephone service the first advantage is the speed. A broadband connection is substantially much faster than the older connections. The second advantage is that a broadband connection is online at all times, 24 hours a day. This means that since the moment you log into your broadband connection you are online until you turn your PC off.

At the same time, you will be able to use your telephone line while browsing in Internet very quickly, because the Internet connection works distinctly from your telephone line. This is one of the most helpful features of the broadband connection, in my opinion. I think that the possibility of browsing in Internet or sending an e-mail while having a telephone conversation it is very important, especially for very busy people, as I am.

Further to a faster access to websites, another important feature is that downloading music and video turns into something much easier. Moreover, a broadband allows you to use new services provided by the development of the Internet technologies, such as telephony (VoIP) rather than listening live radios or TV on demand.
Then, let us have quick loot at the requirements you need to have your broadband connection installed at your home.

  • First step, you must control the broadband coverage of the zone where you intend to install you broadband connection. This test can be made very easily online, you only need to go a broadband provider website, and then enter your telephone number to check if there is broadband coverage in the requested area. Remember that if your area has not broadband coverage there is no way actually to have a broadband connection.
  • Then, a broadband modem is required. A broadband modem is a digital modem used with high-speed connections, DSL or cable service. A DSL modem connects your PC to the public telephone lines while a cable modem connects your PC to the residential cable service.

Actually many broadband providers supply the modem free, included in the broadband connection package, so that there is no need that you buy the modem separately from your broadband connection. I recommend also to place a micro filter to erase any form of crunch you may hear. As the signal of the broadband is available at any telephone socket you may have, you will hear the disturbing crunch in any telephone that has a device plugged into it. The micro filters will delete any form of crackling noise.

In conclusion, my last suggestion: you can actually choose between more than 100 broadband packages in the UK, offered by different providers, most known are BT, Virgin Media, Tiscali, Orange, AOL and Be Broadband. As the decision may be not easy, my advice is to go to a broadband connection comparison, where you can decide what broadband connection speed you really require and which package is appropriate for your requirements.
